Description

UDAYANA COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM IN OVERCOMING NON-SPECIFIC LOWER BACK PAIN

Non-specific or nonradical low back pain is a type of low back pain that does not include a specific pathology (infection, tumor, osteoporosis, fracture, ankylosing spondylitis, radicular syndrome, or cauda equine syndrome). The pain is located in the spinal or paraspinal region (or both) and does not radiate to the legs. The prevalence of low back pain can reach 65% every year and as many as 84% of people have experienced it throughout their lives. Non-specific low back pain limits daily activities and causes an inability to perform work.

Every year there are additional cases of low back pain. In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic, which limits the movement of residents by working from home, has caused some activities to be carried out in a static position for a continuous period of time. This is what causes an increase in cases of low back pain. Physiotherapists as a profession engaged in the health of movement and body functions play a role in providing education and health services related to low back pain.

LPPM Unud through the Udayana Community Services Program conducts a Disability Examination program, Active Stretching Training, Socialization of Work Posture, and Physiotherapy Health Services in Handling Low Back Pain in Guwang Village, Gianyar. This activity is an application of the results of previous research, namely the provision of ultrasound therapy modalities, application of kinesio tape, active stretching training, and physiotherapy health services in the form of exercise therapy. The results of previous studies showed that the combination of giving ultrasound therapy, application of kinesio tape, and sensory motor training training can reduce low back pain and disability, as well as increase joint range of motion in patients with non-specific low back pain.

Community service was held on Monday, 27 June 2022 by inviting the people of Guwang Village, Gianyar which was attended by 51 participants. The event began with an opening by the Guwang Village Head, then continued with blood pressure checks and lower back disabilities. The event continued with socialization of work posture and sensory motor training. Villagers who experience non-specific low back pain are given interventions in the form of applying ultrasound therapy, sensory motor training training, and application of kinesio tape. The event ended with the handover of yoga mats to support sensory motor training training in order to prevent non-specific low back pain complaints.
